Stereotyping in media

For a film to pass this test it must pass 3 things:
  1. Have 2 named woman starring in the film
  2. The woman have to have a conversation with each other
  3. The conversation has to be about something other than men.
All genders of society are stereotyped and young people are given the stereotype as drug dealing, trouble making and young parents who are immature with the responsibilities.
Dyer argues that how we are seen determines how we are treated and how we treat other people is based on how we see them. This comes from our understanding of representation.
Barthes theory looks quite closely at the idea of mythology, usually in regards to people and places. He suggested that the media often gives us myth representations or a fairytale like portrail of a particular place or person.
